Smooth leather footwear

The care and maintenance of smooth leather shoes extends their life and preserves their value over time.
In this article we teach you how to take care of your shoes and little tricks to make them last longer in good condition.
A man's elegance is closely linked to the shoe he wears.

1) Skin preparation

As a first suggestion, we recommend cleaning the leather with a solvent-based degreaser that eliminates residues of old polish and general dirt.

It's called SAPHIR RENOMAT

Instructions:

Shake the product well, take a small amount of liquid on a cotton rag, rub well into the skin, leave to dry.

The Renomat removes all the polish and dirt accumulated over the years of use of the shoes.

2) Reconditioning of dried skin

After using Renomat, the leather will be slightly dried out, we therefore recommend using a neutral cream based on mink oil called SAPHIR LOTION suitable for all colours.

Instructions:

Take a small amount of cream with a cotton cloth, rub it on the leather and leave to dry, the LOTION nourishes the leather, reconditions it deeply and prepares the leather to receive the colored cream. Leave to dry and polish the leather with a horsehair brush.

3) Application of polish in colored cream

In this step, a colored cream based on natural pigments and waxes is used to slightly recolor the leather and cover any scratches created on the footwear.

The Saphir Medaille d'or cream also gives softness to the leather thanks to the refined mixture of waxes contained inside, including beeswax, carnauba wax, shea butter and turpentine.

Turpentine causes the pores of the skin to open and thus allows the cream to penetrate deeper and more effectively.

It is advisable to always use polish in the same color as the shoe, at this stage it is better not to use neutral polishes.

Instructions:

Apply the polish with a polish spreader or a cotton cloth, rub lightly and circularly on the leather so as to cover the entire surface to be treated.

Leave to dry for at least 20 minutes and polish with a horsehair brush.

4) Application of polishing wax

In this phase the process of fine polishing of the shoe begins, through the high content of polishing waxes contained, the wax allows for a brilliant finish on elegant calfskin shoes and preserves this effect over time.

Also for this product, we recommend using dye on dye.

Instructions:

Apply the wax with a cotton cloth, spread it circularly on the leather, leave to dry for at least 20 minutes and polish with a goat's hair brush or a lamb's glove and as a finish use a women's nylon stocking.

To increase the mirror effect and obtain a glazing effect on the leather, we recommend using small drops of water and a little alcohol mixed together to form a mixture.

Alternate the drops of water with the passage of wax for at least 5/6 times before proceeding with the final polishing with the usual tools listed above: horsehair brush, goat brush, lamb glove and nylon sock.

5) Final polishing with mirror effect

This process is used only on the toes and spurs of footwear, the product to be used is called SAPHIR MIRROR GLOSS, it is a very solid wax with little solvent but rich in a mixture of very shiny waxes among which the highly prized Montant wax stands out.

Instructions:

Apply the wax with a cotton cloth rag and massage the tips of the shoes or spurs, leave to dry and polish.

Drop a small drop of water or a mixture of water and alcohol, then rub with a little wax, continue alternating wax and water for at least 5 times, until an evident layered glaze appears on the leather which gives a in the mirror!

Once the icing work is finished, rub with a nylon sock for the finishing touch.

6) Waterproofing of footwear

At the end of the cleaning and polishing process, we recommend protecting both smooth leather and suede footwear with SAPHIR SUPERINVULNER.

This treatment protects the leather and makes it impervious to water and stains.

Instructions:

shake the bottle and spray it directly on the shoes from a distance of approximately 20 cm, leave to dry for 20 minutes then brush to make the newly treated shoes shiny again.

7) Maintaining the shape of shoes through the use of cedar wood shoe tensioners

All classic footwear with leather or rubber soles need to be kept in shape, otherwise the folds of the leather could create cuts in the long run.

Furthermore, the wooden last maintains the correct shape of the footwear for a long time and promotes the evaporation of sweat from the internal lining, also allowing correct cleaning and polishing of the upper.
